how to edit in not-so-open-sources: wikipedia-workshop
@wiki_riot_squad
When Wikipedia was founded more than 20 years ago, its purpose was to gather the world’s knowledge in a space accessible to everybody. But this “open source” is not as open as it seems. Who feels entitled to convert their personal knowledge into supposedly neutral scientific knowledge and to upload it? The encyclopaedists of the present age may not be called Diderot or d’Alembert but “geiserich75” or “hyperrolf” – nonetheless it’s still a white male discourse that determines exactly what and who is represented on the world’s biggest encyclopaedic internet platform. Together we go on a search for loopholes and productive breaches of the rules – we will give you insights into structural problems of Wikipedia and above all tools to engage as editors yourselves.
No previous knowledge needed! Everybody’s welcome!
