Sonic Highway
MFK Bochum
With its dense network of roads, the Ruhr region is Germany’s largest and noisiest conurbation. According to the German Environment Agency, road traffic noise accounts for about half of total noise pollution and is a constant companion for many residents. With Sonic Highway, MFK Bochum invites you to a site inspection of a “sonic red zone”. A walk leads us through physical and instrumental resonances and dissonances, right into the unexpected hilly landscape of a three-leg interchange. We cross and reach places that are usually only caught from the passing car. There, between garbage and rare plants, MFK Bochum formulates a disharmonic response to this landscape for their companions.
